職業與習慣

一個習慣的養成與記憶是沒有關係的。一個無法記憶的人,還是可以擁有習慣,像是E.P.一樣,他無法記著廚房的位置,但是每一天早上他會進入廚房煎蛋吃早餐,他永遠記不住自己住了幾十年的房子外觀,不過他每天出門散步都不會迷路。一個習慣是經過長期的重覆動作慢慢累積而成,一旦腦中的習慣養成了,很難再改變。
習慣的養成有三個步驟:啟發事件Cue/行動Action/報酬Reward。肚子餓是啟發事件,找東西吃是行動,而飽足感是報酬。這三個步驟要成為習慣還有一個重要的因素cravings,當承發事件與報酬直接產生連結時,習慣就會在大腦的中心產生。以肚子餓當例子,當人發覺肚子餓時,如果馬上想到吃飽之後的快樂會讓人更想去找東西吃。
習慣很難改變是因為craving的作用太強烈,所以想要改變不是從移除cue or reward,不是移除這三者之間的關係,而是用其它的行動來重新連結cue and reward。

The Power of Habit

The key to build a habit:
1. fina a simple and obvious cue: make sure the cue triggers a new habit.
2. clearly define the rewards: make sure the subjects appreciate the rewards.
3. connect the cue and rewards (routine): cravings.  craving means that when people see cues, they already think about the rewards.  cravings push people to act to get the rewards.

Example,
McDonald? Starbucks? IPhone? IPad? Facebook?
Ask yourself, how many times a day do you flip your iphone? at what situation? what applications you check on it?



Build my own study habit:
1. cue: first thing after work.
2. reward: a television show.
3. think about the release after watching television shows to make craving.

Facebook (craving)
why people check facebook multiple times a day?  they are craving.  everytime they check facebook, they want to see something related to them being updated.  If they didn't find update, they keep checking.
eventually, this behavior becomes a habit.  in this scenario, update is a craving. this craving makes them facebook additive

push message (craving to distraction) is a key to mobile service.
